The Bible also says it's not okay to eat pork or shellfish

It says that for israelites. As is the insect prohibition.

              Anonymous

The reason is that these animals are dirty. Pork has no sweat glands and eats anything.
              Shellfish is bottom feeder.
Thus it is still unhealthy to eat them today, but not a sin.

Typical sinner - hating to learn the truth of this world because it leads to God. Ok though.

I wont wash rice, but ill wash and pick through beans and peas for stones and chunks of clay and dirt.

You gotta rehydrate beans anyway, of course you better put them in a separate bowl than the cooking pot and rinse them.

If i look at my rice and flour containers now I can see things moving about in there. I assume its still safe as long as cooked.

do you know where you are?

Washing does work, the bugs float to the top. Also, if you have a lot of bugs in your rice, you should wipe out your cabinets or storage space. Food mites lay eggs that stay dormant until suitable food is in their space.

The heat from the rice sanitizes the bug.

ck tells me I'm moronic because I thought living in a first world country(not america) meant there was no bug in the rice because it's already washed. apparently they can't wash away the eggs so it's inevitable, but I have still to this day never ever seen a bug in my rice. so no, I will not wash it

I've washed every kinda grain I eat, from rice to beans to pearl barley and I've never found anything foreign, only a few darker colored beans that seemed off to me.

^Was gonna post something like this.
If I'm having rice it'll be from some microwave minute pouch.
Whatever savings you make in buying sacks of rice in bulk and cooking it yourself aren't worth the combination of added effort and guaranteed infestations.
