It doesn't have as much as an equal amount of Coke. A little sugar actually helps with hydration, something about the way your intestines absorb sugar makes them absorb more water too. But it's also just because people like sweet things, and if it wasn't that sweet people probably wouldn't buy it as much.

i like it a lot, but it does have more sugar than it should. i get the powderized stuff and dilute it with 2x the recommended amount of water

yeah its got more sugar than it really ought to, but its a lifesafer on really hot days or when you're really hungover.
chug one of those c**ts right before going to bed super super drunk and you'll never have a hangover

Its delicious and really does make you feel better when you are dehydrated, hungover or sick because yeah its flaw is the amount of sugar is ridiculous so I don't recommned drinking it too often.
      Still amazing though.

Sugar absorbs water just like salt. Too much sugar can be dehydrating.

you cant stomach water that salty
the problem with salt water is it cant be absorbed by the intestines and you get the shits of your live

high sugar acts as antagonist to electrolyte intake (salt is an electrolyte too)
      something something osmotic balance.
On live rafts there used to be isotonic powder that was basically 95% sugar and electrolytes. The purpose of that powder? make sea water drinkable

"Isotonic" just means the drink is supposed to match natural blood sugar levels, as opposed to hypotonic and hypertonic. The fact it has HFCS instead of glucose, maple syrup, or cane sugar, doesn't contradict the isotonic claim
