You sound like you're stuck in a mindset where eating at home = you have to buy literally every ingredient at once because normally the fridge contains nothing but condiments, drinks and takeout containers. You don't usually go shopping to make one specific thing, you just have a mental inventory of what's on hand and pick up stuff to fill in the gaps week to week depending on what you feel like having

                Anonymous

I feel I have been misunderstood. It makes perfect sense to build on what you have. My issue is these troglodytes that act like showing the prices for their food without bothering to fricking explain what they are making or what they already have makes no god damned wiener sucking sense. And the frick mothering morons that continue to act like any of those kinds of images mean jack or shit considering they come with any fricking context, frustrates me.
Hopefully you better understand my position.

Again dude, let go of your question of what they're making with only things in the pic. You just said you understand the concept of filling in the gaps, there could be dozens of things he's making over the next week he just happened to need that seemingly nonsensical haul. If you want I go down each item and take a guess at what he's doing with it

This. Most of my shopping is to just replace items I've used in the past few days. I wouldn't do 100% of my shopping at Publix, though I like them best. I enjoy throwing every damn item I see that looks good at Aldi into the cart and not even spend $100, and get enough veggies to make a literal salad bar going at home. Next time I shop might be a meat stockup for the freezer at like a Save-a-lot, where I'll divy up the chicken breasts into the freezer ziplocs. BOGO at winn-dixie will be next. Maybe BJs or Costco for a road trip and the snacks, plus TP and paper towels. I don't need 24 croissants at once all the time however.

Yes. I like it. If I tried to replicate it with better ingredients it wouldn’t taste the same. I like exactly how it tastes so I don’t mind that it’s just sauce and noodles in a box.

        Anonymous

The problem with that gross hamburger helper powdered mix is that it gets hard as soon as the dish is slightly cold because it's just a bunch of starch. Not even microwaving it turns it back into sauce. Either way, that lasagna pack is just bolognese sauce. It's not that hard to make. It's just ground meat, tomato sauce with no sugar added, a bit of diced onions and garlic. As hard as the boxed directions.

The taco kits are hilarious.. it's like 8 tortillas, a spice packet and a taco sauce packet for 6 bucks.

Nothing wrong with buying frozen vegetables. Modern freezing processes often results in better quality ingredients than buying "fresh" - especially when it's out of season for that particular ingredient
I like having a few bags of frozen mixed veg in my freezer. Cook some noodles, toss in the frozen veg to heat up. Once it's thawed crank the heat on high and get some browning, dump some seasoning in and you have a decent meal
That said, the other stuff is hardly what I'd go to if I'm trying to save money on food.

It's expensive, whereas the bottle stuff is like $2. Most people can't "cook", and don't even own a grater. Stop pretending everyone is supposed to be some kind of foodie home chef. Look at what's popular and tell me humans have high standards about anything.

Also, the stuff in the can isn't even bad. The $10/lb stuff is only marginally better. You have to spend real money to get noticeably better cheese.

          Anonymous

If you calculate by weight the bottle shit is more expensive than buying a wedge because it's fricking dust.

            Anonymous

No it isn't. It's way cheaper. lol

They add plant cellulose to prevent caking. It's generally derived from corn stalks. Certainly real cheese is better, but the canned stuff tastes pretty close, for half the price and the "it's all sawdust!" hysterics are overblown.

how much is parmesan in america? Its so cheap here i practically consider it storecupboard - im not cooking with it every day and it lasts forever in the fridge. Buying regular cheese works out far more expensive - i dont see why youd buy shitty parm when the price difference is marginal and its not something youll buy every time you go shopping

I have a local farm that has a cash box on the honor system that has corn, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, peppers... everything. Just grab what you want and least some money. If you don't have this, you're in the wrong world.

*Sigh* I will break it down
PF chang's sauce is non GMO/MSG unlike the other kinds, so you're paying for health
Cream cheese and begals is a healthy breakfast to jump start the day
Stir fry with quality noodles is good as Asians have shown being the healthiest longest living people
OM is the only reputable brand for meats as Perdue often cuts corners
Everything else looks fine as you don't want store brand things, those places cut corners unlike official brand name products with better quality control.

OP's picture is missing a few super foods like almonds and guac but I guess that's too expensive.

        >PF chang's sauce is non GMO/MSG unlike the other kinds, so you're paying for health
MSG isn't dangerous or unhealthy, neither are GMOs. But regardless these sauce bottles last forever so it's not bad to do
        >Cream cheese and begals is a healthy breakfast to jump start the day
I'd prefer something with protein, but you're not really wrong here. Though you could probably skip the bagel in favor of bread, since it's cheaper per meal and low end grocery store bagels aren't particularly great flavor wise
        >Stir fry with quality noodles is good as Asians have shown being the healthiest longest living people
Rice noodles, or any bulk noodle purchase would cost as much in store as those while providing you with more. Or just use rice
        >OM is the only reputable brand for meats as Perdue often cuts corners
Neither of those brands are available to me, but deli meat is not what you go to if you want to save money. For the same cost, you could likely buy a larger section of something raw and roast it. Hell or even just get one of those rotisserie chicken loss leaders every grocery has and you'd still have more meat
        >Everything else looks fine as you don't want store brand things, those places cut corners unlike official brand name products with better quality control.

You could replace the shredded carrot with an equal volume of whole carrots and save money - I bet that bag was like $3-5 but an equal amount of carrot you cut yourself would be $1 or less
Vegan wonton wraps when the person is clearly not vegan - why are you even buying wonton wraps you have no wonton ingredients
Replace laughing cow and preshredded parm for a block of chedder. I bet there's $5-10 saved there
Drop the taco kits for tortillas and a jar of seasoning. It'll cost the same (or maybe more) but the seasoning especially will last you months of food prep instead of being used up for a day of tacos
Swap the helper boxes with cheap pasta and use the above spices to save more money

If our governments were worth anything, they would have done something similar. It seems like a smart move to encourage people to self isolate. Call a magic telephone number, have a few bags of healthy food placed at your door step until you can reenter the world.

The economy is already fricked, red states neither want nor need you morons coming along and turning the cost of living into a nightmare like your home state.
It's already bad enough that blue counties hike taxes for their silly projects (mostly embezzling) - we don't want to fork over more money than we already have to at the store just so you asshats can put buttplugs in office who will happily spend tax dollars on a manufactured pond and not repaving the roads.
