Weird food adversions

>love cheese
>creamy cheeses always scared the frick out of me (can't explain it)
>decide to get over it
>buy some brie
>before I even open it body has instant aversion to it
>try a little bit (no rind)
>gag as soon as it hit my mouth
>spit it out
>try it a few different ways (with figs, salami, melted)
>gag every time
>simply can't stomach it
>give up and throw it away

It's strange because I love every cheese I've tried so far, especially blu and feta, but I guess it's something about it that my body doesn't like and I assume all other creamy cheeses will be the same. It's the same way with cooked oatmeal or anything similar, the mere smell of it makes me dry heave.

Do you like melted warm cheese? Did you try the brie hot, and then warm, and then lukewarm, and then a bit cooler, etc?

I had this with fish. Train yourself like a dog. Put it near your face, get a treat. Lick it, get a treat. Put it in your mouth, get a treat (you can spit it out then). Chew it, get a treat. Swallow it, get a treat. Then get a treat whenever you eat it until you're okay with it. Sounds dumb but it's basic operant conditioning.

Beans have done this to me since I was a kid. I don't like kidney beans in chili, but baked beans give me that instant aversion. Like my body wants to throw up. I was forced to eat them a few times when I was a kid. Threw up in the bathroom. It isn't like a total bean aversion like I like green beans, black beans. Just bake beans have messed me up for 40 years now.

Brie is the lamest cheese in existence so you're not missing out

If you want to try again, go for a triple creme like delice de bourgogne. The delice is not technically a brie, but it's a good launching pad for bloomy rinds. Rich and creamy, but somewhat milder than most brie. If you really are having problems you could also try this or any other brie with some good preserves or jam. The sweetness will help your palate acclimate to the more challenging flavors in the cheese.

Mushrooms. Every other food I don't like I can just deal with and eat it but mushrooms drown out every other flavor to me when they're put in anything. Can't stand the flavor, can't stand the texture. Can't do it.

I'll look into it. I'm almost certain it's texture though. Soon as my teeth hit it I know what it is and I immediately involuntarily spit it out.

I googled foods with sulfites and have a problem with any of them. Coconut shavings are the only things I've ever done this with.

            Gotcha
Most dried fruits are preserved with sulfites; most people I've spoke to who have sulfite sensitivity just think they're picky eaters or whatever but they've just learned innately what to avoid

Personally I find brie on its own a little boring. Get some red pepper jelly and spread that on some cold slices of brie. Honey is pretty good as well.

Probably the texture. If you don't like it, then don't frickin' eat it. There are some things that I absolutely hate, even though they're the "proper" things to eat. Frick that - I like my steak really lean and I'm not drinking ANY whisky that has an ice cube sitting in it.
