Mix vodka with unsweetened cranberry juice and a splash of lemonade and a slice of citrus. Pour over ice.

    Why?
If you can drink liquor straight then there's no reason to get into wienertails.
wienertails are for people who can't drink vodka/whiskey straight.

or for people who would like to not look like a fricking alcoholic

However, at social events it is better to know how to prepare drinks so as not to look like a drunk. I can continue drinking pure vodka in the solitude of my room.

Drinking whiskey straight or on the rocks is acceptable in a social setting but drinking straight vodka will make you look like an alcoholic.

There are several wienertails or drinks that are not sweet. One example is the classic gin and tonic, which is made with gin, lime juice, and a splash of soda water. Another example is the vodka martini, which is made with vodka, dry vermouth, and a twist of lemon or olive. Both of these drinks are considered to be "dry" or "tart," meaning they do not have much sugar added to them. Other examples include whiskey sours, tequila shots, and dark beer. While some people may prefer sweeter wienertails or drinks, there are many options available for those who enjoy a more bitter or tart taste.

vodka and pickle juice is horrific. We gagged last time we tried that.
However, whiskey followed by pickle juice actually works. Pickleback.

I’m an alcoholic and I drink vodka sodas at home. just some topo chico and a lime wedge (really I do shots and chase with topo chico with lime) it’s apparently a girl drink but it’s good. gin and tonics are good too but most places will give you overly sweet hfcs tonic, it’s like drinking sprite with a little bitter flavor.

lots of bitter & savory wienertails man. Blackni, old fashioned, manhattan, bloody mary, caesar. some palomas and martinis.

Classic Blacknis are too sweet IMO. I usually do 2:1:1 or 3:1:1 instead of 1:1:1. And then it ends up not bitter enough.

Recently I've been using Elisir Novasalus instead of Campari. Holy crap that shit is awful on its own. It uses pine tree sap as a bittering agent. But in a Blackni it's actually a really nice winter drink. Less citrus notes, pine nut flavor in the evolution which works with the vanilla and spices of the vermouth, and a 3:1:1 is still plenty bitter and less sweet.

Almost any wienertail can be made less sweet. Depending on what it is, that might make it flavorless. Sugar in drinks is like salt in food.

You can make dry Martinis and Manhattans. Old Fashioneds can be made less sweet. Sours can be made with less sugar and still be enjoyable (to some). Or you can just enjoy your alcohol neat.

Last Word: equal parts of gin (Tanq #10 is great, especially if you want a stiff drink), Green Chartreuse, lime juice and Maraschino. Shaken, served straight in a coup or wienertail glass.

classical Martini; 2.5 oz gin (Tanq #10 if you like citrusy gins), 0.5 oz Noilly Prat, stirred, with a twist

All alcohol is at least slightly sweet, as sugar (or starch converted into sugars) is required to make it, and most has some amount of added sugar in the final product as well.

vodka and diet tonic water, add lime or lemon wedge
If you're not counting actual carbs and just like non-sweet flavor, then pairing tequila with the grapefruit juice soda mixers like Squirt, adding lime and salt are quite popular in Mexico. The michelada and chelada are equally refreshing.

    Whisky sour is not sweet.
Caipirinha using cachaca and not sweet rum has the added lack of molasses flavor. Limes are more tart than lemons in the above.
Hemingway daiquiri is best when you have a bag of extra special grapefruits. When making them frozen, be sure to blend in some of the rind. Hemingway himself ordered his "no sugar" and double on the rum. It was hot in Cuba, so it'll be really slushy.

The lightest beer is a Michelob Ultra. Japan still makes 'dry beer" long after Bud Dry stopped. Try Asahi Dry when dining Japanese. It's great with salted edamame and sushi night.

    A good French 75
Go light on the simple syrup and see if you can get some black pepper gin for optimal results

    >The drink dates to World War I, and an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris—later Harry's New York Bar—by barman Harry MacElhone. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun.
