Sometimes I like to add a little sugar and chopped dates, to make a sweet loaf. Kind of a breakfast thing. With melted butter it's very delicious and so simple.

Sometimes I go for savoury, and to the simple dough recipe above I add caramelised onions, garlic, herbs, parmesan cheese. Make little herb garlic bread rolls for dippin' into soups and sauces. I don't even need a recipe, I just freestyle it. Baking is super easy

That seems worse than a fruit cake you send to family during the holidays.

Self rising flour works with baking powder. That makes it a biscuit.
If you want bread, you need yeast as your levener.

This. Emphasis on measuring instruments. Baking is a science, not art. You must be precise when measuring ingredients.

I just wing it but if you're truly new to baking you probably want to look up a recipe and follow it EXACTLY. If you're making bread regularly get yourself a mixer. A handmixer is like 15 bucks and it will make things so much easier for you. You don't have to spend a fortune on a stand mixer although they are very convenient.
Start with the dry ingredients and then add bloodwarm water a little at a time.

Oh, and don't be a b***h about the temperature of the oven. I see that a lot in newbies; they're scared they'll burn it and keep the temp. pretty low. Ramp it up and pay attention to it.

        >don't be a b***h about the temperature of the oven.
That comes across as kind of stupid.
First you say don't be a b***h about the temperature of the oven,
Second you're on about spending a fortune,
Turd your on about measuring instruments,
        Fourth you're a gay!
