I grew up all around the south and midwest. never called them anything but drinks or whatever the specific brand is. you know, you're driving in a car with a friend, "hey can you stop at the gas station, I'm thirsty. i want to get a drink."
people who call them soda, pop or anything else are gay and weird, they're just drinks
I'm 29 and I get made fun of endlessly for every minor difference. Even the way I say 'roof' or saying 'acrosst' instead of 'across'. That's just the way millennials are I guess.

I got made fun of for many things in school but no one made fun of me for any of those things. though I noticed my dad said acrosst all the time. I thought it was his dementia. then I realized I did it to, so now I actively try not to say it, not because people make fun of me, but because it sounds odd.
If anyone made fun of me for odd speech inflections they did not have (when I was young). I don't remember it, or didn't care.
