      Salt

I think it tastes like salt and it tastes like Heaven, but I can't eat it anymore because it's extremely bad for my health and I'm past the age where I can just spam (lol) salt at my body without consequences.

I want to know what it looks like inside the can. Like if it fills the whole can which is what I'm imagining, how do you get it out. Is it already sliced?

      Anonymous

it's lubed up with spam jelly. Flip it over a plate or cutting board, shake it once like it's a bottle of ketchup, and it'll slide out a single can-shaped mass

        Anonymous

You forgot, squeeze the short ends of the can. Sometimes you need to massage the can a little, let a little air in, to help the can give birth.

But yeah, if you eat hot dogs, you can eat this, and you'll enjoy it, assuming you're not just faking a reaction for your "lol so gross" Youtube review on ZoomerEats. No, don't eat it cold out of the can (at least not the first time), slice it and pan-fry until warm & browned for a little crispy contrast, then chop and mix with scambled eggs, or make a little sandwich with American cheese, mayo, ketchup on a toasted hamburger bun, maybe even a little cheeky hot sauce, whatevs.

ALSO really do watch the sodium if that's a health concern. You may notice a product called "Lower Sodium" Spam. Pay close attention, it's not "low" sodium, it's "lowER" sodium. Still not a health food, but hey, life is for the living and there's nothing like a fried Spam sandwich with a glass of that 1998 Cab Sauv from the little vineyard you found after getting lost in Napa, and you stop and knock on someone's door for directions, but it was pouring rain, so she invited you inside, and the power was out but there were candles and a roaring fire, and... well anyway, you've been saving that bottle because you know that you can never really go back (even if you could FIND the place), but this is the time, so you pop the cork and let the wine breathe as you take your first bite of the first Spam sandwich (there's an entire tray of them, you see), and your tongue is bathed in savoury umami pork with a seared bite, a cookout flex, and as the first hints of melted cheese begin to tingle your taste buds, the setting sun momentarily glimmers through the trees on your vast palatial estate bought with Bitcoin profits, and you close your eyes and savour the chew, just as the aroma of the wine is gently wafted toward your nose by the gentle summer breeze, and then...

You wake up. You're half-naked in a fithy, damp bed in a damp, cold room with a half-eaten microwaved Spam sandwich on a paper towel next to you, and your tablet got knocked onto the floor somehow. You pick it up. You were browsing Culinaly. Oh no... but you reach over the nightstand, finding (with relief) a tumbler of Monster Zero mixed with Fireball (still half full), you take a long swig, then a ravenous bite of the cold Spam sandwich, then another long swig. Then you open your browser history to see what the evening's mayhem has wrought. You don't remember much, but you almost certainly got banned. Yeah, that's a sure bet. Three day vacation. You need it.

            >it's not "low" sodium, it's "lowER" sodium
I always tell people not to get the lower sodium kind. If you're worried about that, then Spam isn't for you. If you're going to take a half measure you might as not take any measure at all since you're not going to get the real experience.

Aside from musubi, spam and rice with eggs is pure heaven.

I buy and store the 25% less sodium spam because I can get it down to $2.33 a can during a sale and I like the lower sodium.

Also, don't cook it again people it's already cooked. Warm it if you want, but if you start frying it you will just make it less tender, dryer and not as juicy and moist. Out of the can is the best way. Why make more work for yourself for naught?

      Anonymous

Oops during a sale *at Costco. They only stock the 25% less. Sams has the original but it's always a little more. I have more luck getting kids to consent with the reduced sodium.

I know I am in the minority but no, I would rather have a nice juicy piece of meat instead of a burned double cooked dried out husk of meat. I prefer my steaks and burgers medium rare too. I know, I know... I am a filthy savage.

Low sodium spam is pointless, you're being conned by the "25%". In a whole can it's not even a gram less salt.
You should try Spam Lite and see if you like it. Spam Lite is 25% chicken AND has the same amount of reduced salt as 25%, as well as having half the fat, which is far healthier than regular spam.

        Anonymous

Spam lite isn't as good. I am not getting conned, I just like regular spam with just a little less salt which is what I assume that is. It's also the one I can get the cheapest.

It's already cooked. Do you double cook your ham or do you just warm it up?

It's pretty common for people to bake ham.

          Anonymous

Yes, you bake ham to warm it up but you don't cook it again. In fact, when I buy spiral sliced ham for 99c a pound to cut for deli meat and freeze, I don't even bake or warm it up again. You don't need to. It's cooked. Your just making it warm or helping the glaze penetrate better.

Have you ever fried ham in a pan? Terrible. Stickiest secretions and makes a mess in the pan. This ain't my first rodeo.

I do that for breakfast sometimes 1 can of spam cubed, half dozen eggs, four slices of cheddar or a quarter of a pound from the block, half an onion and just stir it around now and then. At the very end squirt in some hot sauce or my favorite maple sciratcha. Think I'll make it now for tommorows breakfast.
