It makes chicken taste amazing. I'm glad I don't have that shitty gene that makes it taste like soap.

It's not a special gene. It tastes similar to soap and picky eaters freak out about that.

No it doesn't but I'm glad to hear you've overcome your genetic disability.

There literally are genes that make certain compounds perceptible to some people's taste and not to others depending on whether or not they have that gene. When I was in middle school the science teacher handed out little strips of paper and told us all to stick the end in our mouths and say what it tasted like, and everyone other than me and one other kid said it tasted nasty and bitter, and all I tasted was paper. I don't remember what it was, but the point the teacher made was about how the ratio of people who could taste the thing to those who couldn't was very close to the data we have on the broader population. It's not that some people are just more sensitive certain things. It's that some people don't have the taste receptors to even register those compounds at all.

I know everyone thinks their own pronunciation sounds correct to them, but there are certain things you should be able to recognize just sound better in a different dialect, and "herb" with a hard "h" always sounds awkward.
      >best erb
      >best herb
Just say the two out loud and one has a much nicer flow to it.

If you trace it back to Latin the pronounciation with h is even more logical.

I didn't say it was an English word, I said in the English speaking nations where it's employed only one drops the H and it's the nation that is, by and large, turbotarded as frick.

Why do you hate the British?
Modern British English sounds more like African-American Vernacular English, or something you might expect Alex DeLarge to say in A Clockwork Orange.

It doesn't sound awkward unless you have to pause to insert an H sound, which you don't because it's made with a simple exhalation that is easily performed while moving your tongue from T position and shaping it for the E.

it's a really nice floral flavour, people say it's like oregano but it's less 'spicy' and has more depth.

similar herbs ranked in terms of how pungent they are: marjoram < oregano < thyme

they're all a little similar, but marjoram is super gentle and thyme is a like a brick to the face. they all have their place but once you start cooking with them the differences start to become very important

I find them all quite different but you're right about the intensity. Mexican oregano is my favorite. Wish I could get my hands on some real Za'tar herb.

Nah it's what's traditionally mixed with sumac and sesame to make the zaatar spice mix, usually substituted with thyme/oregano.

Parsley as it works with/in everything.

Great for sausages or thick soups like pea, lentil or potato soup similar to savory.

I dislike tarragon, perhaps due to the awful carrots my dear mother made long ago. Marjoram seems overwhelming on its own but tolerable in poultry seasoning. And bay leaves, i just don't get, except for the science, though i still never use them. I like all the rest but don't use as much as i should.

My favourite is Basil. Super easy to grow, grows fairly quick, can be grown indoors even in low light, grows new leaves quickly if cut correctly, clones easily, if grown indoors it makes the area around the plant smell great, can be thrown into salads, makes pesto etc etc. not saying it is the best but I like it the most.
