Is the grilled cheese sandwich all you're making? Are you making more than one? There are many reasons why you might want to keep your crispy food crispy for a few minutes instead of just eating it out of your skillet.

      >Do americans not own wire racks? Do you put waffles on plates too? Put them on wire racks so they don't get soggy
This absolutely works just as well as a toast plate, and maybe better, but most people don't own an individual-serving-size wire rack, and even when someone does, it's not super fun to serve food on one. Presentation doesn't make food taste better, but it can affect your mood, which does affect your perception of flavor.

I think single-use items like toast racks (pic) or toast plates are a waste of money and space honestly. But much like a toast rack, letting your toast cool down a little before putting it on a regular plate will prevent it from sogging

According to the video when you place it directly on the plate the bottom gets soggy as steam tries to escape but can't. Placing chopsticks like this on the plate supposedly helps keep the bottom crispier.

      This is true.
I typically try to place any toasted bread partially on the lip of the plate to help prevent this. Even for things like egg and bacon sandviches.

I guess mesh or wire rack would work, and also be useful for cookies and stuff. But when I transfer it to a non-toast plate to eat in another room, it'll steam up anyway won't it?
