      i think you're joking but isn't that kind of true with some plants? I've heard for potatoes that they become toxic once they sprout.

        Potatoes are part of the nightshade family and can be quite toxic. Green potatoes have relatively high levels of toxin but are generally still safe. The reason they tell you to store potatoes in a cool, dark place is not to make them last longer per se. It does make them last longer, but only because exposure to sunlight can concentrate the amount of toxin found in their skin, making them inedible.
