that's chả lụa, a steamed pork roll. it's really bouncy and porous so it's perfect for soup. its the same cooking process as the meatballs they put in pho
it's two broths so it makes more sense to do them at the same time. it's one of those recipes where it's so much work that an single shortcut would give me guilt
These are great but its weird to me that its such a chicago thing. Its a fucking beef sandwitch you would think people would be selling these everywhere.
Coastie here. The combo sandwich, soaking wet, with lots of sport peppers is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. One cannot claim a life well lived without trying one. Tavern pizza is really good too.
I honestly don’t blame you then. I love Buona and it’s always been pretty solid but I know that feel. I had a bad experience with Boston market as a kid, never again.
I would always go to Hot Doug's when I was there, but I guess that closed a while back. Kind of a shame, but Doug would literally close the restaurant if for any reason he couldn't be there. Last time I went I had to wait almost 20 minutes in line, which I would never do again anywhere. I hate when things get too popular. I unironically love basic Chicago dogs and stuffed/deep dish. Never really cared for Italian beef or their shitty tavern style pizza cut into squares. Then again, it was my ex who was from there, not me. Don't listen to anyone who tells you Chicagoans don't like deep dish and "it's just a tourist thing". When anyone from out of town visits they're immediately on the phone making a reservation at illuminati's pretending like it's something they *have* to do...and then they love every minute of it once they're there.
holy shit the 'go 'chie 'ox
'talian 'eef.
'ased 'trophe 'oster.
A 9mm.
Never been to Chicago. Probably Alinea.

I recognize the blood cake, I think, but whats the other rectangle shaped item in the soup next to it?

I wish I had the urge to make it myself but it's so much fucking work for a home kitchen. one day
*pressure cooks in your path*

no trip to chicago is complete without portillos italian beef
For me it’s Als #1 Italian beef combo with hot peppers and some fries, dipped
Last time I went, the bag was so greasy, it ripped open when I got home, lost a few brave fries on the driveway that day. I fuckin love it

Johnnie's Beef in Oak Park is the king of Italian Beef sandwiches, hands down

Op here, I agree with both your choices. They are my favorite too.

Nothing everything has gone downhill. Portillos, lou malnati's, Culver’s, it’s all gotten worse recently.
I live in Chicago,
where did you get a Chicago munchie box at??
pizza puffs are criminal underrated
what do you bros think of Buona?
portillos is shit.
It really is, it felt like the quality dipped super hard after Covid. I only shill for Buona and Al's now.
Buona is trash. Als is good.
Really? What don’t you like about Buona?
Its not that bad actually but I found a live bug in my fries there
I honestly don’t blame you then. I love Buona and it’s always been pretty solid but I know that feel. I had a bad experience with Boston market as a kid, never again.
Buona=bourbouguis version of portillos.
da Brats
>da Brats

>What's your favorite Chicago food?
Anything I can buy at the airport while I'm in the process of leaving Chicago
Harolds chicken slathered with mild sauce and lemon pepper is pretty good.
Freddie Gibbs wrote a whole song about that.
You better keep my wife's meatloaf outta your mouth nigga
I am not african american so I've never been to chicago

bro 20 min for Hot Doug's was like no wait at all. I had kangaroo brats and yak sausage after waiting in like for 45 min and was happy about it
I had Pequod's last time I was there, just a few weeks back. It was good
italian beef hands down
Portillo's or Lou Malnati
