Why do people confuse best before with use by?

Why do people confuse best before with use by? So much food goes to waste because people think it’s bad when it’s perfectly fine to eat

If it doesn't smell rancid then I cook it and eat it. Never been a problem. Especially in this case where the username seems like it's a parent making food for their kids, I get the impression that they want to feel like they're being a good parent or prioritizing their children's safety or something. I remember some excerpt about when canned soup was first popularized, they purposely formulated it so that water was added when you cook it. Obviously it saves on space and shipping but it would let housewives feel like they were still cooking something for their family instead of being lazy and just heating something up. Could've been bullshit but I found it fascinating, that you just need to give people those small reassurances that they're not a complete failure at raising their children.

cause they're morons. that's it. they don't understand how to test themselves if food is bad or not. they lack intuition entirely and attribute issues or abnormalities with their body and its functions entirely to food. i have dated one for years. it's tough.

But isn't minced meat one of the few food items where it should NOT be a Best Before but actually Use By? Weird.

It's March. OP has some minced meat that is best by November 11. How is this possible if it expires? It's not. Therefore, it does not expire.

If you're not cooking the meet within 2 days, you throw it in the freezer. Everybody should know this.

What kind of microplastics do you have to infuse into your beef to get it to last until November?

stores actually have no duty not to sell you rotten food, so the best by date and the use by date are for the same purpose

Genuine morons take written things too literally
You should always go by your senses, if it smells rancid, throw it away, if it tastes weird, throw it away, it's not rocket science
And even then, the bad smell or taste are not surefire indicators whether something is spoiled, it might still be perfectly edible and nourishing, but I wouldn't take the chance, I am not that poor. If money is an issue, you gotte make compromises.

What about canned food thats 2 years expired?

It's almost always good. Just examine the inside of the can for rust after pouring the contents out. If it's dented, throw it out or consume ASAP because the protective plastic lining will be damaged.

2 years is nothing for canned. 20, then we'll talk.
