Not the few restaurant owners I know. Maybe most others do, but the ones I personally know don't. They get their stuff from a different source I won't go into. Now, if that source gets it from Sysco, idfk, but I don't think they do.
Why do you think everyone gets their food from Sysco? Not trying to set up a "gotcha!" here. Just keep seeing this shit on Culinaly and wondering just how a single company can supply literally everyone, especially since I know for a fact that the restaurant owners I know don't get things from Sysco (or, at least, not directly).
Sysco is the largest restaurant supply company in the USA, with 17% of the total market share, along with being a major supplier of other goods used in the hospitality industries. It's kind of a meme, but we're still talking about 1 out of every 6 restaurants in the USA being a Sysco customer. Though IIRC Han Feng Inc. and its subsidiaries is the largest wholesale supplier to Chinese restaurants in the USA.

I don't speak Chinese very well, but I know that the restaurant owners I know, both Chinese and otherwise, get their stuff from some Chinese supplier or a local, supercheap restaurant supply store. I don't own a resto myself, but have accompanied friends who do when they've gone to the supply store and gotten some things with them but again, idk if the store is supplied by Sysco. Asian places in particular have a dedicated Asian foods supplier. I wouldn't be surprised if sysco had some of their business but if you're buying bulk pickled mustard greens you'd probably want a lil chinese fella driving the truck

homie what? I'd had beef and broccoli about 3000000000 times before I moved to the US. The difference is in the preparation. American-Chinese beef and broccoli generally has more sugar, less sesame oil (if any) and uses a different variety of broccoli. I would guess the first two changes were to match the US palate while the last one is because Chinese broccoli wasn't easily available in the US when the first Chinese restaurants opened /in the 1800s/ and by the time they became popular in the post-war period, western broccoli was already adopted into Chinese cuisine both in Asia, where it remains fairly common, as well as abroad.
And I think General Tso's is from New York, not California.
