same reasons as delivery and taxi apps work - work at a loss or barely breaking even for a couple of years until people develop a dependency.

New generations no longer know how to prepare meals and store ingredients, they no longer have fridges big enough to store ingredients, pre-prepared snacks and meals or left-overs. They also organized their entire schedule around picking up meals to go instead of making their own. It will change given time or they have to pay the price and save money somewhere else like health insurance, home or car ownership.

Occasionally I'll have a hankerin' for fries but it's so absurd that prices have been hiked up so far. Fricking fried potatoes shouldn't be more than $2 at most

the price of mcdonalds fries are off the charts, and that's not the worst part about it, they use the most toxic pesticides that exist, the potatoes have to be 6 weeks in quarantine to not be deadly for consumption. mcdonalds fries are the most unhealthy thing they sell.

in the netherlands we have "snackbars" where you buy fries and fried snacks. it's way cheaper. if you buy regular fries, you get a paper bag containing about 400-500 grams (about 2 full plates) for 3 euro. if you buy it with mayo you get it in a plastic container that has a separate section for the sauce for 3.50 euro. BUT the amount of fries is not even half of what you get when your order them without sauce.

fast food chains really suck, the prices they charge for a drink are also off the charts. 3 euro for a medium soda (400ml). that buys you 1.5 liter at the store. actual price should be 1$

a pathetic big mac only has 90 grams of meat. actual price should be 2$

I really don't know why fastfood chains remain popular. it's the biggest ripoff money can buy, their margins must be extreme

I don't eat fast food anymore, only eurotrash does. Why would I pay premium for bad food when they replaced half their employees with machines and the preparation/quality js worse anyways? Items have been pulled off menus not because they are underperformed, but because they are not low quality enough and it's affecting the bottom line. Remember the big n tasty? Gone and replaced with a plain double cheeseburger. I live in the US, there is a megamart on every corner with every ingredient i could ever want, mom and pop diners everywhere that will genuinely have your food ready faster than McDonald's, hell even gas stations like wawa have better food than fast food places, so why bother?

It's maybe not cheap but it is actually convenient and fast. Nothing wrong with eating fast food if you want to, if you don't compromise your health doing it and if you have the money.
The people criticizing fast food all day long often projects their own problems onto people. They're either fat, paranoid about their health or poor. Nothing wrong with not eating fast food in these circumstances, on the contrary, but there's nothing wrong in eating fast food either if you don't have these issues yourself.
It's just a matter of making your own choices and stop trying to validate them with generalizations

I used to complain about being forced to pay high prices for terrible fast food, like a moronic lower-class person. I thought I had no choice; that I would just be stuck, paying exorbitant prices for reheated frozen slop-food served from a mostly automated snack bar attached to a public toilet. What other choice did I have? This was my life now. I was trapped and helpless.

Everything else is pure trash though, can't remember the last time I had a fast food burger that wasn't totally disgusting. Captain D's was really the only place I liked but they changed their fries then they changed their fish. Everything is worse and also smaller. Frick it I just cook at home now.

      Anonymous

I know that feeling with frying stuff. I can’t be bothered to do it at home, because then what do you do with all the leftover oil?
You can let it cool, put in the fridge, and let it solidify until next time, but the clocks already ticking on it’s “best before” after the first fry, so unless you’re frying more consistently it’s a big waste
Not to mention, the single time you fry any kind of thing in it with a strong taste, the oil is essentially ruined. Oh, you want to make churros? Hope you enjoy that smell and taste of cod that you fried last week!
Disposal is a pain to, at least where I live. Oil doesn’t freeze to a good solid state, so I can’t put in my compost bag in the freezer. So the only option is to try and pour it out into a can (or two) and stick in the fridge until garbage day, I guess? Not to mention, the amount you need to get a good fry on something means you’re going to have like a half a quarter of a liter of oil to throw out eventually
It’s all such a pain, if you want fries, then you might as well bite the bullet and just buy some at McDs

        Anonymous

Yeah, the whole process of making homemade fries is a pain in the ass if you want to do it perfectly. The lazy way is still a pain but then you just end up with shitty starchy fries if you don't parboil then fully dry and fry twice and all that shit. I'd definitely do it again in the future but I think next time I would have to make a huge batch and save a bunch for future use for it to be worth. Definitely takes too much effort if you're just making a small portion for one to two people. Love fries but meh not that much.

Just because you don't have money or health issues, now, doesn't mean that the majority of fast food eaters don't

            >fat, poisoned morons
It's parasites, anon. Parasites in the gut causing the cattle to be enslaved by these parasitic corporations. It's a symbiosis of shit.
I just finished reading The Parasite Chronicles by Boo H. Kwa. Recommended.
The author posits that the massive increase in tapeworm and pinworm prevalence in the West in recent decades is due mainly to one thing:
An increase in workers from the third-world in food handling, preparation and delivery.
He used an example of a Hassidic israelite community in NY that had an outbreak of pork tapeworm infestation, despite never eating pork.
They got infested because they hired Mexican housekeepers.
(Pinworm eggs can survive for years on the surface of paper money. Lol.)

I make $60 an hour. I have a 50 hour work week. Economically, it doesn't make sense for me to work for 30min to an hour to make a meal that costs $40 in ingredients and feeds two people, when I can spend 15 minutes ordering and consuming one for about the same price.

You can always make more money. You can't make more time.

It’s laziness. Slothfulness and gluttony, I’d know because I’m one of the people that still goes to these places sometimes
I know how to cook and I like cooking and I like keeping a stocked freezer (usually stews, since they’re easiest)
But sometimes I just want to say “frick it” and get some kind of instant burger from a fast food joint
And other times it’s because what I’m cooking at home isn’t getting the same reception from my brain that eating something fatty and salty does
More than the first point, I think it’s the second point that drives people. Salts and fats make our brains happier than eating veggies or something, that’s a huge reason they’ve been able to keep up business, and at its core why there’s a huge obesity epidemic. If people never got huge chemical releases from eating fats and salts (both of which are available to manufactures at incredibly low prices) then it never would have gotten this bad

I remember seeing this old video on Vice, before it was shit, that had this guy hype up his back yard as this super exclusive restaurant. On the one day he opened it, all the food was microwave slop, and all the people who came ate it up with gusto. Just shows, no one really cares what they’re eating, as long as it has “clout” of some kind

Get this, OP: Some people not only eat fast food, they get it *delivered.*

There exist people who pay extra to eat cold McDonalds. Let that sink in.

Fries fresh out the fryer, there's a legitimate treat. But people who get fries delivered, they're legitimately mentally ill

I can only understand eating fast food if you are homeless or you want some fries
any grocery store will sell much better and healthier PREPARED frozen/fresh food for the same price
the cardinal sin of fast food is that it's processed and designed for people without teeth so you don't need to even bite, the food dissolves in your mouth on its own
eating food like that is a thoroughly unrewarding experience that leaves me feeling not full despite eating 1000+ calories
there is no reason to eat that for anyone with a home, any frozen dinner is miles ahead of the garbage you can buy in fast food restaurants

It is still convenient, fast, better then most cooking, and most importantly cheap in consideration of the cost it would take to make food for hours compared to being able to use that time to work
One hourly rate spend working vs cooking is something that saves you immensely, even if the food costs are the same

DoorDash was costing me too much even with a membership I spent $500 one month. I wasn’t happy with the meals, they tasted bad, were small portions, and generally unhealthy. I now meal prep and found a passion for cooking. Anyone that’s buying it now better be someone that’s traveling too much to cook at home. Unless it’s a date night at a sit down place even then I can impress my girl better than most food joints. It’s just nice to not have to do dishes afterwards or get away from the kids. After an 14 hour shift cooking shit, doing prep, and cleaning a kitchen. I don't have any energy left to make anything. it feels like shit wating fast food so I usually try and get a local sandwich place if its still open on my way home, but usually they're closed.

This is why I can't stand by you fast food morons. You assume the people telling you to cook are asking you to make beef wellington or burgers from scratch each time. Rice and lentils take like 30 to 45 minutes and involve you dumping rice into a pot. Bonus points if you have an instant pot which makes it way more hands off. What mess are you making with a ham sandwich or pasta with red sauce? Sincerely you fast food fricks deserve to be fleeced by these corporations because you are picky fricking homosexuals who will bend over backwards for big corporations to justify your childlike eating habits.

Not counting the occasional pizza, I have not had fast food since 2019. Covid got me cooking again and inflation killed any desire to get fast food.
