Why is deep fried salmon something only ever made at home?

I've never seen a restaurant that serves it. Is it some kind of rule that salmon shouldn't be deep fried or something?

There was this little old chinese couple who ran a sushi place that made fried salmon rolls. They were outstanding. I guess the reason is that salmon croquettes were something that the parents of baby boomers (the greatest generation or silent generation) made them eat and they hated them so now you don't really see it anywhere. Might be because they used canned salmon since maybe it was cheaper than canned tuna back then. I have never seen fried salmon anywhere besides at that little restaurant they ran.

millenials ruined salmon patties (local name cus we're nowhere near acadia nor louisiana here) but they're delicious. I'll make some tomorrow actually now that I think about it, I have some canned salmon that I didn't know what to do with.

I mean, I'm 40 years old and a millennial by definition but I make salmon croquettes after having friend salmon rolls at that little sushi shop. Maybe it's a question of lightly frying the fish instead of deep frying the fish, but I really like it. My dad hates them and refuses to try them whenever I make them, even if I make the homemade mustard he likes.

        Maybe it's a regional thing.

And by "regional thing" I mean in an area of the US where canned salmon was cheaper than canned tuna.

probably because salmon is a little fatty already and is seen as one of the healthiest fishes to eat. maybe they assume people who eat salmon usually aren't going to want it fried.

They're insecure about sharing their individual opinion so they have to pretend it is the opinion of some imaginary group hence the "we". It's moronic and people who do that generally have nothing to say anyway so just ignore it.

broccoli is cheap and not seen as much of a superfood like salmon and more people are probably likely to eat fried broccoli and feel like they made a better choice than eating fried cheese or something and still the kind of person to go out and order salmon most likely is more health conscious and doesn't want fried food to begin with

It's true. People only want to hear that something is a superfood if they think that it'd taste good. Because broccoli is widely hated (unfairly tbh), it's relegated to being just healthy.

what do you think a "superfood" is? the prevailing definition is "food the speaker wants you to buy", so are you selling something here?

A place on the coast near me does fish an chips with Salmon, ling cod, rock fish, albacore tuna, and probably another I can't remember off the top of my head
they are a major fish processor/packer for both commercial and hobbyist fishing boats
they can their own fish, including tuna, you can literally see the canning line in action most days
best canned tuna and salmon around

Every once in a while I see salmon fish and chips on a menu and I pretty much always get it. It’s uncommon but so good. Weirdly it’s less greasy feeling than deep fried cod or halibut.

        >Weirdly it’s less greasy feeling than deep fried cod or halibut.
Those shouldn't be greasy at all. Must have the fat temperature too low in the fryer or a strange batter mix.

No matter where I get fish and chips and I have gotten it at a lot of different places, after the first few bites they fall apart into a big mess and the breading gets soggy with oil. Salmon fish and chips rarely seems to do that. Granted I eat mine with a fork so maybe I’m doing it wrong

deep frying is good for foods with very low fat, like vegetables or lean meat, because it adds a layer of bread soaked in fat to compensate. salmon is already a very fatty meat and the last thing it needs is even more fat.
