Not Chinese, I'm Bong. I'm trying to see if anyone has a sound reason for not eating it; I mean I'd probably never eat it but I can't come up with an actual explanation as to why.

True but the majority of dog owners refuse to take care of or train their dogs so unfortunately most dogs are disgusting, aggressive and loud

It's not very good meat, and people who aren't evil psychopaths would never want to kill a dog for food, but if you come across some incidental dog meat I don't think there's any particular reason to avoid it as long as it doesn't gross you out too much.

There's nothing wrong with it. The average moron just humanizes dogs too much so they FEEL bad or someshit.

One can form a bond and attachment to any animal and not want them killed, but to ban it is moronic.

    Bad for whom or what?
In absolute moral terms? There's nothing wrong with it.
But in the West we've cultivated a mutually beneficial relationship to dogs which have made us reluctant to use them as a food source. We have plenty of better-tasting and cheaper alternatives, which don't require that we break our special bond to man's best friend 🙂

Because carnivores in general aren't the best meat. Too much muscle, too tough, too often have parasites.

But really, we don't eat dogs because we have more use for them as companions, pest control, working dogs, etc. Dogs are our friends, and the only cultures that eat them are cultures that have recent history of starvation periods, or they're just low intelligence/low empathy societies.

dogs are somewhere in between a carnivore and an omnivore where they can sort of digest plants but not well enough to live off of them exclusively

            Anonymous

No, it actually isn't. Omnivores don't just need to have the ability to eat both plants and animals, they need to be able to survive exclusively on either. The reason dog's aren't technically omnivores is because they can't generally survive off of exclusively plants.

They don't look edible. It's like an instinctual thing. I believe because they're carnivores in the wild. I mean does a lion look edible to you? It doesn't to me. It doesn't look like food. Whereas a Buffalo- yep that's edible. A fish? Yep thats edible. A sheep? Yep that's edible. A dog? No. A panther? No. A hyena? No.

Just trust your senses. Land animals that eat other animals aren't typically instinctually seen as food. Maybe a famine food. If inwas desperate maybe.

I wouldn't eat dog. Not for moral reasons (I literally fricking hate them), but for reasons of disgust. I have no instinctual desire to eat their meat. And if YOU DO, well that just shows you are of a subhuman nature. You are in a famine, you are desperate, or your inner nature is not of my own and you are a lowly animalistic being with no discernment of what is food or not. You would eat dirt if you could swallow it.

Coyotes are pretty commonly eaten in the southern united states. Hawai'i even had a type of dog specifically bred as food stock. I think, like with most cultural nonsense that makes no logical sense, it has to do with women being allowed to speak in public. Some of the common emotional woman arguments are:
    >Carnivore!
Irrelevant, bear and cougar meat is held in high regard and domestic dogs can be fed a partially vegetarian diet.
    >Useful companion animal!
Also irrelevant, pigs can do most of what dogs do better and we eat them. Dogs are relatively expensive to feed and they eventually get too old to work. There really isn't any logic behind dogs being taboo as food. The American diet is very narrow.

I dont think it's wrong to eat dog. Aside from most being horrid creatures, I just don't think it'd taste good since most dogs killed for meat have been abused and starved and obtained unethically. Also higher chance of disease from eating them vs chicken or beef.

If they were free range or hunted in the wild maybe they'd taste better but I barely eat chicken or beef so I'm not adventurous when it comes to meat.

It's wrong because it's a mammal carnivore, we don't eat mammal carnivores simply because of Disease and parasites, disease and parasites more easily cross between mammals then say avians and mammals, trichinosis is the main contribution too why it is taboo, last but not least game recognizes game, the only true mammal "carnivore" we eat are bears and they are riddled with trichinosis

Bears or omnivores but they are in the carnivora order, same with dogs, dogs have learned to be omnivores from humans, just because an animal can eat plant matter does not mean it can survive on it, wild dogs or wolves would not survive on plants alone, bears on the other hand can, but bears can be anything, they can be strict carnivores, omnivores, or strict herbivores, depends on where they live

I've heard that carnivorous animals are prone to parasites (sorta with the exception of fish) and taste considerably worse so that's probably why eating dog never caught on elsewhere. Seems quite inefficient to raise carnivores for meat anyway.
Dog meat is not something that I'd eat personally but I'm not going to spout vile words at those who choose to eat it. Personally I've eaten horse meat before which is considered taboo here in the US. I find it ironic how horse meat is taboo based on their "pet status" despite how poorly they're often treated. They're usually slaughtered and sold as meat abroad when they "retire". Shallow rich kids keeping horses as pets and abandoning them when they can't tolerate horseback riding anymore is by far the #1 contributor to horse meat exports.

All animal farming is evil/israeli. The only ethical way to consume meat is hunting a species that is invasive or will otherwise become overpopulated and meet a worse end than a bullet. That is not sustainable for the current human population at the current meat intake levels which is why the poison Covid vaccine is a good thing.

Expensive to feed and raise, poor meat returns. People get mad about it because dogs are companions to people. It's a less extreme thing than saying you want to eat someone's brother.

Dogs are carnivores, carnivores mean more muscle, less fat and high protein diet, means meat is not very tasty. People aren't eating bobcat or mountain lion meat either, the taste is bad and the meat will be mostly muscle, ie; tough and stringy no matter how ya toss it. taste is subjective to be sure, but it is abundantly clear in one bite that carnivore meat sucks.
Coyotes for example, i know lots of people who hunt them, sell the tails for 10 bucks, but wont ever touch the meat. It just sucks. Also pretty sure carnivore meat gives you prion diseases or something

That's because domestic cats eat any random bugs and toads they can catch. Even then the meat is comparable to rabbit in quality. Cougars are fattier and their main prey are deer.

If you're looking for some objective moral reasoning against it, I don't think there is one. I believe the reason that most people are against eating dog is the same reason that most people are against eating cat and horse. Dogs, cats, and horses have all lived alongside humans for thousands of years as companion animals. They've all served labor purposes, too, but the labors of dogs and horses being in close proximity to their humans, so strong bonds are often formed, and cats, while operating independently, will regularly seek out humans for warmth and companionship. This being the case, humans have, except in times of desperation, viewed them as friends, rather than food. Also, dogs and cats aren't as easy to farm for meat (they eat too much for the amount of meat you'd get) and their labor is generally of far more worth than the meat they would provide.
On the other hand, cows, sheep, pigs, etc. have all been kept for their meat or the stuff they provide (e.g. cows provide dairy, sheep provide wool, etc.). They've become pretty docile through domestication and they provide a great deal of meat, requiring food that we wouldn't eat (e.g. cows eat grass, pigs eat whatever, chickens eat seeds and small insects, etc.) and, if they do provide labor, it's not much that would allow for a strong bond to form.
That, I think, is the gist of it. We tend to be averse to eating the creatures that we view as friends.

Doesn't taste that good, takes too long to raise them for the shit amount of stringy meat you get. Also if they're an urban stray dog like the one you're considering killing and eating they're probably terrible because they eat literal trash every day. They're more worthwhile to raise as working or companion animals than as meat, compared to something like a pig or a cow which is essentially worthless in every way except for meat. Now horses on the other hand we should 100% be eating

We haven't selectively bred dogs to be a food source.
    Rice? yes
    Chicken? yes
    Salmon? yes
    etc
Even game or wild fish can be considered to have been selected by hunting and fishing. Dogs have been bred for playing various roles in human life, just not the role of foodstuff.
That isn't to say we can't start. Some breeds of dog only took a couple hundred years to totally transform. If we start now, we could have dog meat that looks like kobe beef before too long.

Hawaiians had the poi dog, Aztecs had a hairless breed I'm not going to try and spell, there were "kitchen dogs" all across Europe. People back in the day ate animals that got too old to work rather than keep feeding them while they have no use. Hell in pagan era Scandinavia they threw you off a cliff to your death if you hit your 60th birthday. The idea of dogs as family members is mostly modern and aristocratic.
