Why the frick is it so hard to peel garlic?

Why the frick is it so hard to peel garlic? I even used the secret method of putting it in the microwave, but it still takes me 10 fricking minutes to peel 1 clove of garlic. I love fresh, raw garlic and want to add it to my food, but this shit is ridiculous

    chop off both end tips
    smash with flat side of knife
    skin peels off voila
    the only problem with this is that its hard to hand mince smashed garlic since its all uneven shaped
    so sometimes i will use the knife to pull away at the skin as i chop the ends off
    its not as foolproof at smashing the skin but it leaves the garlic inside intact

      Literally this. How are people so inept here? It takes me 5 seconds to peel each clove just by using the knife-smash and I’ve not once ever struggled.

          You don’t actually smash it. You press the side of a knife down on top of it until the outer casing cracks then you peel it off. It doesn’t actually break the clove itself unless you’re an absolute moron with the coordination of an autistic with cerebral palsy.

      i give it a firm press with the knife to not break the garlic apart. it still causes the skin to be released easily

    I've noticed only chinese garlic has really sticky skin. Wholesome white-man garlic peels quite easily after being crushed.

    I take two metal mixing bowls and put them over top of each other and shake the living shit out of them. needs to be large bowl so they have enough room to slam around and bust the skins loose

    I pull the flaky layers off over the trash and then split it into cloves, chop ends off the cloves and then score lengthwise. Probably not the most efficient but I can peel and chop like half a garlic head in a few minutes or so like that.

    This is kind of of hard to explain, but I'll give it a shot.

    Take knife and cut close to the bottom of the clove. Cut through everything but the skin on the opposite side. Tilt the clove away from the knife and the skin should peel off the back. The other half should be easy to remove after that.

    my mom taught me that you have to cut off the top of the garlic and then put the clove in a bag and throw it at the counter/wall a few times and the layers come right off. sometime i try cutting the layer off with a knife but its a bit messy

    If you want whole or diced garlic, slice off the blunt end and it'll peel easily while remaining whole.
    If you want minced garlic, just lay your knife on top of it flat side down and smack it with your palm and it'll peel easily and be smashed up and ready to throw in a dish.
