              It reaches 600 °F in 10 mins. I don't see the problem. Maybe yours were mounted incorrectly.

        I've got them on a pellet smoker and can catch that on fire from time to time. I added a griddle to one side so if/when it flares up, I move it over there. that wasn't my original intentions for putting on the grill, but it keeps flames off the meat and gives it a good sear in tallow. I could clean it and it wouldn't do that, but I can't be bothered

    Convert it to charcoal.
    I did it, yanked all the guts out tossed em in the bin put in bottom plate. good to go.
