nice sloppy meal but the carrots give me pause

yeah, i tried carrots last time and the pieces were too big, they ended up being kinda crunchy, it was ok,

but this time i made them way smaller, i should have cubed them up tbh but i was too lazy

I only think it would be a bad addition to chili because it probably got mushy like how it is in a canned soup. Throw it in at the last minute, seems fine

I think it looks good OP, got that nice even size on the meat and there’s nothing wrong with a little carrot (for me I’d do shreds or matchstick cut like a tomato sauce would have).

Someone has to say it OP but even stray cats would turn tail and run away from that slop, in some parts here in the states that would be considered animal cruelty and you better not be before a hanging judge because you might get the 13 steps then a noose.

did you just throw in vegetables that were about to go bad?

carrots i understand, but you're seriously telling me that corn in chili is unusual?

even canned chili here in europe has corn in it

I've never seen chili with corn in it in the USA and I've had at least 5 different canned brands of it, had it all through school, never seen it in a restaurant or homemade from various old ladies. To me corn in chili might as well just be a myth.

        >you're seriously telling me that corn in chili is unusual?
        yes.
        cornbread is the side.
corn in it serves no purpose.

Corn in chili is an abomination

        Anonymous

Yes. Corn, like beans, are a common side dish with chili (corn usually in the form of cornbread). Neither belong in the chili itself.

Notice the CORN and even carrost in the chili.

No, I hate corn in chili. Tried it in a chili I made one time and the texture and taste just do not go with it.

You understand that "chili" is a contraction of "chili con carne"? Where's the carne?

      >"chili" is a contraction of "chili con carne"
      incorrect.
chili refers to the peppers of the stew.
con carne refers to adding meat.

At this point I'm convinced Europe is being weird on purpose

It’s a poor person thing in the south.

Or taste preference. Same as people who serve it over white rice. Just a way to stretch an already cheap meal.

At a certain point though, it’s just a goulash or casserole. Once you’ve thrown in corn, carrots, rice, squash

is corn in chili really this outlandish in America

        Anonymous

Not really. It's not common, but really not that weird at all.

        Anonymous

Purists say meat and chiles only. Tomato, onion, and beans are not unusual in America. I've never seen nor heard of putting corn or carrots in it before. It doesn't look bad really, it's just unexpected. Kind of like the reaction you get when discovering japs put corn on pizza.

They're not purists, they're Texas Red gays who don't even know it's called chili colorado and you're supposed to serve it on chili beans
Chili verde is supposed to be served over stewed lima beans but no one like lima beans anymore
