Adjustable Measuring Cup

Is this worth owning?

Using a small spatula to clean out measuring cups is a pain. Getting only this thing dirty instead of multiple measuring cups for a recipe is appealing. For something like corn syrup or peanut butter it seems almost essential, but I don't frequently bake with sticky ingredients.

You know normal measuring cups usually have marks for smaller measurements, right?

easier to just put a bowl on a scale and in your ingredients

Sure, but sticky/goopy ingredients are almost never listed by mass.

then google it or just measure the weight and write it down yourself

Not worth it. Goopy shit you'll still have to manually push down and/or use something else to level it. Use a measuring cup and a tiny spatula if your squeamish about using a finger. But shit's cheap. Buy one if you want, though it'll likely be sitting in your pantry collecting dust after a handful of uses.

If you're concerned with sticky ingredients. Then just get a kitchen scale and measure things like peanut butter by weight. When you're done adding the peanut butter, tare the weight and move on to the next ingredient.

I've found that most of the OXO products I buy are of substantially higher quality when compared to the other shit on amazon. How much of that is amazon promoting their own brand over the shittier products on their website is another question. That being said,

      >Using a small spatula to clean out measuring cups is a pain

homie what? Just buy a set of pyrex glass measuring cups, those will last you a lifetime. What kind of shit are you measuring that requires a dedicated spatula to scrape out? just rinse out your measuring cups when you're done with them and put them in the dish washer. It's like the easiest kitchen thing to clean.

Also this: get a kitchen scale for fricks sake. Like a thermometer, it's something that every home cook should have but for some reason people just buy pots, pans, and a knife and they think they don't need anything else.

        >but for some reason people just buy pots, pans, and a knife and they think they don't need anything else.
        Most don't.
If you want to up your baking or candy making game, then scales for accuracy in baker's %s makes sense, but truly, even an intermediate level cook can do without them.
Just like long experience enables free pouring for bartenders, a skilled cook doing the same recipe for the 50th time can get away with a LOT of eyeballing, since they already know what the result should look like.
As to OP's Q: I bought one for my mother for Christmas maybe 8 years ago, and she loves it for stuff like mayonnaise, honey, anything "Difficult" to get out of a measuring cup.
I personally have no issues with just a rubber spatula. Just another thing to clean for me.

Alton Brown was selling his own branded version of tampon style measuring cups way back in the day. They seem like a good idea when you're watching a 30 minute cooking show, but in reality they're just as much of a pain to clean as anything else, if not more so.

Honestly Alton's use was the reason I assumed it might be worthwhile. I also think he was being autistic when it comes to measuring mayonnaise.

It was watching Good Eats in my 20s that really turned me on to cooking. I don't think I use any of Alton's recipes now, but I always think fondly of the techniques and stuff I learned from watching the show.

maybe it could be worth it for corn syrup like you said. but I dont bother, either I scrape my measuring cup with a spatula or I just add extra to account for the stuff that doesn't pour out. hasn't fricked up a recipe yet and I do candy fairly often

I own two of these things in different sizes. I can't remember the last time I used either one. I should probably just get rid of them; they're taking up space. TLDR No, IMO you're better off with a good set of measuring cups (liquid and dry) and a jar spatula.

Just use a cup, it's volumetric and you can do everything with it. I'm EU btw and don't give a frick.

I'm not sure I get it. Why have the measuring tick marks then? I guess it might give you more accuracy if you have Parkinson's.

Completely moronic except for thick semi-solid stuff like shortening or peanut butter which is impossible to nicely fill a conventional measuring cup with
