I assume all they can harvest is what you order and where you get the food.
They can track where you order from if you give location permission.

The McDonald's app is different than most other apps in that you have to install it as a navigation app. Usually only things like Waze are installed as navigation apps as it is a special category with baked in permissions that allows it to always be active in the background and always have access to the phone's location. For apps that you're using to navigate, these are desirable features so the app can continue to direct you while you have other apps in the foreground and also so it can always have a lock on your position instead of taking a few minutes to get its orientation when started.
For McDonald's they say it must be this way so that when picking up your order, it will immediately know that you're at the correct location. And of course so it can give you directions there. The side effect however is that the McDonald's app lets McDonald's keep track of your phone's location 24/7. What do they do with that information? Who knows but apparently they value it enough to give you discounts in exchange for you letting them collect it.

        >What do they do with that information?
Obviously sell it to social media and the government. The NSA uses it to build a more robust profile on every single american. If they know the regular actions of almost everyone it will be easy to spot when someone goes rogue. The ultimate goal being making it literally impossible for any natural uprising to occur because organized resistance will be spotted from the moment of its inception.

Yes, the government discovered an interesting little loophole with all these data collection apps. It's illegal for the government to spy on citizens without a warrant but the government is completely free to purchase any information companies have collected about citizens and use that to build dossiers on everyone.

It seems to me that if you can't memorize directions you should be more interested in seeing a map than seeing how many seconds are left of your hiphop song, and you might even be better off without the distraction of any song at all, but ok.

Yes I know how it is done but you have to allow apps to do it. You claimed it's installed as a nav app and that is just plain false. Do I really need to take a picture of my McDonald's apps permission screen? Mine does not have location turned on, I have to allow it in app if I am going to pick up a meal.

            Why are you lying?

              Anonymous

You're both kinda right, because apps don't need location permission to locate you.
The McDonald's app has "View WiFi connections" permission, along with connect/disconnect WiFi permission.
They can see which WiFi networks you connect to, and which WiFi networks are in range. With only a couple of unique essid/bssid pairs, they can geolocate you by querying a global wifi name+mac address network map, that was created by Google, for this exact purpose (fine location, without gps.)
The app also can see what other apps you use and monitor network traffic. Also it runs at startup, even if you never use it.
              Grimace?

The mcapp can access wifi api which lets them know which networks you connect to and which networks are in range, which gives them precise location and daily movement dats. They know where you work, they know where you live, they know if you are cheating on them with other chains. But don't worry about that.

Apps are the least of your worries. They are already testing cameras in drive thrus that scan your license plate. You will be monitored and recorded every moment of your life. imagine eating fast food this often lol. I'd rather use the coupons you get in the mail. Idk what they do now, but when i worked at burger king you got mailed coupon sheets. the coupon has a code you punch into the computer. You could just memorize the code and say it too, and keep the coupon, but my coworkers got bent out of shape about ""they have to have a real coupon and you have to take it from them!11!"" like shut the frick up you fricking philipinos i dont care. laminate your coupon for all i care (iirc i think there was a guy who actually did that for a meal combo that was really old but we still honoured for some reason). but yeah it would be the same coupon as is in the app. I really think people should have two phones, one burner for this kind of crap and then their real phone. if only that would actually work
