Sorry, I was assuming you lived in a first-world nation. In America, Canada, Japan, and much of the EU, water from the tap is of exceptional quality (compared to human history up to this point).
I also know this because I downloaded and read my local water district's quarterly reports. I'm in the Bay Area, CA, and the water is of excellent quality. It's also exceptional in NYC, where I used to live.
