what's dees?
Nothing great, nothing horrendous. Easy to mix into most neutral or savory dishes, especially if you use some sort of sauce with it. Could go with rice and a sauce, eggs, etc.
its porky and as salty as bacon, with no smoke flavor. it can be crunchy or soft depending on how thick you cut it and cook it. overall a pleasant experience as far as tinned meats go. there are worse.
>there are worse.
Just for the film of arguments. Which?
Vienna sausages
FRICK. YOU.
Corned beef
Spam vs corned beef. Explain
the corned beef is actually ok, it's just generic corned beef in a can. it's just cured beef instead of cured pork.
Corned beef is salted beef.
It's similar in concept to spam but the pork medium lends itself better to salt preservation and tinning for whatever reason.
Corned beef is a weird looking off color catfood kind of product while spam is a respectable well formed rectangle you can fry and get lots of flavor out of.
With Corned Beef brand is exceptionally important for some reason
I've liked it for years and been confused that so many didn't
Then I tried a brand I wasn't used to and it was vomitous
Turns out I had accidentally been buying the high quality stuff for years because that's the kind my mom bought when I was a kid
With corned beef either pay a lot extra for the good stuff or expect to be badly disappointed
"luncheon meat"
Lol Canadians really
NTA but for a long time I thought there was no canned meat awful enough as to be inedible, naive as I was, raised on Gavrilović mesni doručak and Austrian Fleischschmmalz, which are afaik pretty close to Amerikan spam. Then a few years ago while I was in the army I discovered a whole new level of canned meat. They were small round cans from a compsny6 of which I forgot the name in the north-east of the country that you absolutely cannot find on the market. I suspect they only stay afloat with military contracts because I can't imagine who would buy that garbage willingly. The label clearly indicated the cans had no more than 45% actual meat content and oh boy could you taste it. Opening it was already an experience in itself. The top 10 of the can wasn't filled with spam, but some sort of semi-processed animal fat you had to scoop off and which I assume gave the thing a longer shelf life. The meat itself did absolutely not taste like meat despite being quite coarsely ground. All you could taste was salt, thickening peas and preservatives. Absolutely dreadful experience, I think not one guy in our squad ever actually ate more than a spoon or two of it and we eventually just stopped bringing them on field maneuvers all together (we usually had American style MREs with us as well, which were obviously much more appreciated).
So yeah, never underestimate how shitty military food can be.
Pic related or Libby's Luncheon Loaf.
Treat is just spam with less pork flavor and a hint of turkey. It's not that bad. These bastards are awful though.
Yeah, this shit is bad. Just pony up the extra buck and get deviled ham.
Treet is the actual pink slime stuff that people meme Spam to be, when Spam is just a holdover from the time when people didn't have refrigeration and it was cheaper to put fairly good meat in cans.
For some reason I get a craving for this shit/other pate like a fricking pregnant woman every year or so. It's odd but last time I went with braunschweiger and I ate the whole tube thing with triscuits in 2 days. It was neat.
Try mixing this 50/50 with cheez whiz and putting it on white sandwich bread with crusts cut off for a party hors d'oeuvre. You can also add sliced green olives or some cream cheese in the mix.
How is it impossible to brown this stuff?
I don't get it, it just gets a hard white blister that peels off the inner layer.
The aminos have largely already been broken down in the formation and cooking processes.
It's the same stuff. Potted meat mogs them both.
Actually kind of like this stuff, has an interesting spiced flavor, almost cinammon or nutmeg. Not as good as spam but much better than the Aldi brand stuff.
Extreme salt.
Pretty good as a variation of a Hawaiian dish called Loco Moco, with spam in place of hamburger.
Not good if you microwave spam. Really need to fry it instead.
That's all.
Camping with my parents, running low on food. Dad finds a can of corned beef under the seat. We have white bread, mayonnaise and onions.
Best sandwich of my life.
Very salty ham, tastes great grilled
lol no.
tastes like a lovechild of bacon and hot dog
It's pretty good but not like you're missing out on too much tbh. It is my go to meat to cook with my eggs though
It's decent to have fried slices of as an alternative to bacon/sausage at breakfast, I wouldn't choose it over basically anything else to have on a sandwich or something though
You should try it anon, but don’t try any of the weird BBQ flavors or any of that. Just get a can of original. We used to eat it out of the can raw with cheese and crackers. Good stuff. Also goes well fried over toast with eggs.
it's pretty good uncooked, as long as you get all the weird crap from the can off of it.
salt and pork shoulder that's been ground into pulp
I like to take spam coat it in brown sugar and lightly pan fry it. Comes out crispy and carmelized. Good with rice and veggies
sounds good bruv
it's very salty but tastes delicious, goes great with duck liver and blood
Spam is a lifesaver when you’re too lazy to go to the store. I always have a can for a rainy day. It goes in so many tasty dishes but I recommend cooking it
