Wal-Mart is introducing a new line of premium foods aimed at high-income shoppers who have recently started shopping at the chain due to difficult economic conditions.
The new brand, Bettergoods, will feature more than 300 products and is Wal-Mart's largest roll out of a new product line in the past two decades.
The chef-inspired, often plant based products will be on shelves later this year. Wal-Mart hopes the new product line will help it increase margins that have been under pressure lately due to rising input costs and shopper's tightening belts.

Okay so some MBA just scored a 500k bonus this quarter because they're gonna re-package Great Value items, n1

A fool and his/her/zir/their money are soon parted.
Also, this sounds dumb. Why would high-income shoppers be shopping at Walmart due to "difficult economic conditions" if they were rich and not poor? It sounds more like they are making these fake premium products to try to squeeze more money out of people who are bad at money management.
I mean, I get why high-income shoppers might shop at Walmart if they want to purchase a bunch of products cheaply for themselves, while buying a few expensive things from other retailers to show off to their friends, but...
It reminds me of the Gordon Ramsay line Wal-Mart rolled out, which cost twice as much as the same food in a less fancy box.
Wal-Mart does have data showing that more of their customers are from higher income groups than before but I wonder if that's mostly people panicking over food prices trying to do something to reduce costs but will end up going back to their regular grocery stores once they've become tired of the long lines, crazy parking lots, and weird customers at Wal-Mart. Premium foods might appeal to higher income shoppers but if it takes them half an hour to checkout while being surrounded by the type of people they'd call the cops on if seen in their neighborhood, they're not going to last long as customers.
they order online
I shopped exclusively at whole foods until my prime ran out and now I shop at Walmart, just speaking personally
I'm a mid income shopper and I get as much food as I can from local farms. All meat comes from local butchers.
If I do go to a chain grocery store for something that has to be imported like bananas and spices it would be Meijer, not Walmart.

i don't get it, why would they buy premium things if they had to resort to shopping at walmart?
Premium items at Wal-Mart cost less than premium items at Whole Foods, or at least that's how it will be presented.
>Premium items at Wal-Mart cost less than premium items at Whole Foods, or at least that's how it will be presented.
I'm still going to be buying the cheapest stuff I can find at Walmart that is functionally identical to the premium stuff
Love the image since it's from a Publix (*Where Shopping is a Pleasure).

Fair enough, but let's be honest with ourselves here: while high class ladies are nice, who hasn't ever felt the temptation to have a one night stand with a cute tweaker chick?
To soothe their embarrassment.
Looks like a play for the "small pleasures" market. During the Great Depression sales of tickets to see movies went up because it was a small and affordable pleasure most could afford. Walmart will play these up as if they're for wealthy people, while pricing them to be an affordable luxury for the regular shopper.

I wish the price of LSD would decrease. I mean, if you space out each dose by a week or more, you could take a vacation every weekend.
wtf it's like 5 dollars, it's already cheap
$5 for what? One hit? That's not enough for a solid trip. I haven't done the shit in like 20 years but back then you had to buy a whole fricking sheet to get a deal like that anyway, singles were like $10. I refuse to believe its price hasn't risen since the Bush administration.
I want to read the ingredients on these so bad.
My gf made me switch from the Walmart neighborhood market to Ralph’s and groceries are almost twice as much here. Stay away from booshy women, don’t make the same mistake I did.
>Stay away from booshy women, don’t make the same mistake I did.
I think you meant to say "bougie"
He has to wait until she approves of him changing his spelling.
Sounds like Wal-Mart's version of Simple Truth/Simple Truth Organic (Kroger).
>Premium
how many people here actually shop at a shartmart on a regular basis?
I do, they have so much useful shit. The website is usually handy and tells you how much it is and where it's in stock. It's like amazon but don't have to wait for the shipping.
I get eggs, cheap ground turkey, salmon, frozen brocolli
I shop at Publix and go to Target for anything else I need.
Love Publix but Target really has gone downhill in recent years.
We try our best to make things nice, but goddamn is it expensive nonetheless.
>t. Publix staff
I do. I think you guys all live in bizarro land or something because the stuff I get there is identical to the products sold anywhere else and I've never seen any weird crackheads in the store or anything crazy like that. It's literally just a normal shopping experience
None of those products look appealing. except maybe the Pistachio butter, except I'd only buy it once too compare to making it myself in my food processor.
"Muh plant based" kek. Plant based almond milk! Now I want to try the almond milk from chickens or wherever it comes from.
Look, man, I can handle a monthly or bi-monthly trip to costco, but I have no tolerance for Wal-Mart. It's too crowded, too dirty and too depressing. If I were a rich person I'd do all my shopping at Erewhon.
Isn't the average Walmart shopper bringing in like 80k a year?
>Walmart's typical shopper in the US is a white woman between 60 and 78 years old, who is married and living in the suburbs. She typically owns her home and earns a middle income of between $40,000 to $80,000 per year.
>Walmart's typical shopper in the US is a white woman between 60 and 78 years old
I secretly sort of like wal mart
I make up an excuse to go every other month
The only edible thing in this line up is the yogurt, but I wouldn't even trust that.
>plant based yogurt
I don't even want to fricking know.
I didn't even see that, ok, literally nothing in that line up is food. Who the frick would eat soygurt?
>fake cheese
>Almond "milk"
>guacamole "flavored" chips
>k pod coffee
>salsa with the same ingredients and preservatives as the store brand
>yogurt tainted by strawberry flavor and likely artificial sweeteners
>pistachio butter, with added preservatives
>pop
>chocolate milk, ok.
Whatever. Great Value 4 lyfe!!!

I make $110k and get most of my clothes there. I have some nice tailored clothes for when I need them, but for farting over to the post office or a bar crawl I don't want to spend Macy's prices. It's all from the same factory
Walmart home delivery is now competing with Amazon's Whole Foods delivery. In my area, they both offer free unlimited delivery for premium members. They will both literally send a wagie to deliver hundreds of pounds of groceries within a few hours, for free, as many times as I want.
