Zoomers do not know how to cook at all. It's appalling.
Boomers really fricking dropped the ball hard. They had the easiest lives ever and ended up slacking so hard on their lives and their childrens' lives that a whole two generations are fricked up.

Makes me mad. Makes me want to continue on my cookbook

uh huh. Where are you located?

It's not that they're too depressed. Zoomers are just mentally incapable of understanding the appeal of any kind of labor that isn't streaming video games or their godawful opinions. They are the laziest generation ever and the doom for western society.

Millennials are turning into grumpy old homosexuals at such a record pace it's hilarious. You guys sound like some lame 65 year olds and I doubt any of you are much older than 30.

some zoomers are cooking autists that watch a lot of cooking content on youtube and learn from that
but the majority of zoomers don't know how to cook literally anything. they only eat out or have frozen microwavable shit, or instant ramen. zoomers think that you need to be some rocket science level genius to be able to cook even something simple like just grilling chicken breast because they say they're "too depressed to learn how to cook" (or ADHD, demotivated, etc)

chicken and rice is the new meat and potatoes. also where millennials got fat eating TV dinners and red baron when mom was working late, zoomers eat an ungodly amount of delivery and fast food, giving them better opportunities to explore food and try new things while making no actual effort towards learning anything practical. In spite of this, most of them are still ordering mozzarella sticks or nugs and a warm coke zero

Doordash, fast food, ramen and TV dinners. That's it.
Granted, most older people also didn't eat very well when they were in the late teens either, they just did less fast food and more ramen/hot pockets.

  24. 2 years ago

I'm sure trash just like I ate in my 20s but the difference is I paid a lot less (relatively and absolutely) for my fast food or take out since there were no extremely israelited delivery apps nor corporate knowledge of how inelastic demand is for fast food. Last time I got a frozen pizza it did indeed taste better than the shit I had a decade ago so I guess they have that going for them.

People are simultaneously pickier and more adventurous. I think that means that people are split into two camps: The picky eaters, who now are more entitled and narcissistic than ever, and the non-picky eaters who through being brought up with youtube, instagram, reddit et.c, have access to even more exotic stuff than what I did at 15.

    i'm a zoomer i guess so here's a serious answer
i grew up poor and my mom didn't have time to cook much so we had quesadillas, ramen with frozen vegetables, spaghetti most nights
i got into cooking in high school i took 2 years of culinary because it was fun and learned how to cook a lot of basics such as eggs, meat, vegetables, and food safety as well.
i also worked in a restaurant after high school which helped as well
i like to make chicken curries with rice, pesto chicken on pasta, i make a pretty mean arugula prosciutto salad, pork and lamb chops, lots of salmon and can do really good roasted garlic mashed potatoes.
i think it's really sad i think a lot of people my age grew up similarly but didn't have the opportunity to take cooking classes. in college too all of the food was prepackaged except for the salad bar.
many of my friends don't know how to cook and doordash food. i knew one other person who could cook around my level and they learned recipes from their family. they were ethnic as well so learned from their papa, nana, etc and had more family members in the house to pass down traditional dishes.
last year i did some real adult dating for the first time and most of them involved going out to eat or getting fast food which was really disheartening as well. i did not meet anyone who could cook for themselves or wanted to cook with me.

also i grey up semi-rural and our high school (public) had home ec, shop class, etc. i am currently living in a larger city and there is nothing like that at the high schools here, which are also mostly black and brown students. it's really sad.

It started with the "greatest" generation. They started out fine, but then got hooked on canned food after WWII. Things went downhill from there.

yeah, people pretend like this trend is recent, but the whole "horrendous processed food slop" trend started in the late 40's and 50's. hasn't stopped since. in terms of sheer consumption of slop when compared to consumption of 'real food', things have gotten worse. but the quality of the slop has certainly gone up quite a bit
people forget just how bad highly processed tv dinners and easy-make meals used to be back in the day

I mostly eat fruits and (non-starchy) vegetables, an embarassing amount of artificial sweetner and water enhancer, unsweetened plant milks (oat and almond), black tea (with the milks), egg whites, and hot sauce; I eat other things like yogurt and oatmeal on occassion too, and sometimes treats like candied cherries or animal crackers. I steam my vegetables, eat raw, or make them into a simple soup with tomato paste, sometimes I put hot sauce on them, but I also like just steamed veggies with salt; hot sauce on egg whites are a must though. I'm trying to add more whole foods into my diet and I would say I care considerably more about what I eat than my peers, parents, or really anyone who I know.
I'm not sure about my friends habits, but they tend to eat out more and eat more frozen foods than me. Some I'm not even sure cook at all.
