I can't find anything on the internet documenting anyone marinating soft boiled eggs in hot sauce. So I am marinating soft boiled eggs in hot sauce. Got these babies marinating in some habanero hot sauce next to some other eggs in some Japanese soy marinade. It's been one (1) day. How long should I let them go? Ramen eggs usually marinate for 5 days at most but this is a vinegar based sauce.

I marinate my ramen eggs for less than 24 hours, but I also use leftover chasu braising liquid, it gets too salty if it's marinated over a day.

I tried a chink tea egg like this. It was very gross and tea flavored. I only left it for a day and a half.

Based double inventor, it’s like if Newton got bonked and invented apple pie and gravity in one afternoon

Also hot sauce marinated eggs sound nice, do you have a specific use in mind?

Tee hee. This made me smile, thank you for the kind words. The obvious use is for ramen. I like an extra egg so now I'll have two varieties. Also I was thinking of Japanese style egg salad sandwich where you keep one to put in the middle for that elaesthetic slide. So just normal egg things. I quit drinking and I'm trying to up my protein intake. Plus egg farts are funny.

That's not very nice. Why? I used these two sauces. I really enjoy a soy-egg so I figured why not try a hot egg? I'm just wondering if the vinegar content in the HS will be enough to almost pickle the egg?

They are starting to gain some color anons. If I get the munchies I'll bust one out and cut into it, but the longer they sit and the marinade penetrates the jammier the center will get.

I know this isn't a traditional soy-egg marinade but it gets the job done. Although I wish it was saltier. Love it when they start to get some color.

if a sugary hot sauce is out, maybe a mustard-based one, or chilli oil?
smokey hot salsa style might be based and i kind of want to try it myself. turn that into an egg salad sandwich.

I got a hot sauce variety kit so I'll be regularly posting about new egg flavors. Next well do a chipotle hot sauce, or maybe a jalapeño since ita green. Can you be more precise what you mean with a smokey salsa style?

i usually make it myself but imagine smokey chipotle cholula with added salsa-sized tomatoes and roasted peppers

when i make pickled eggs i let them pickle for a least a week, since hot sauce is mainly vinegar as well i'd say that's a good amount of time (in reality you can probably just do 3 days)

I believe so. That just seems to make sense since it would have less space to travel. But these were soft boiled.

I would like to know if the eggs turned into acidic fricking dogshit or if they were edible

I don't see why they would. People pickle eggs all the time. This is a little different but still. Plus the ramen egg recipe has vinegar in it as well.

Whenever I finish a jar of pickled pepperoncini I like to soft boil some eggs and pickle them in the leftover pepperoncini juice.

How many days? This information would help me out greatly.

        Anonymous

My experience has been that any less than 4 days is not long enough. A week is preferable, and any longer than about 2 weeks led to the eggs getting rubbery.

        Anonymous

But having said that, it may be different for you especially since you're using hot sauce and not straight up vinegar pickling juice.
Maybe try one after 2 or three days and see how it's come along so far, it might need more time but maybe not.

The hot sauce ones will taste pretty good, you don't have to worry about leaving them in the solution too long because they will just be like normal pickled eggs (I'm assuming you mixed the hot sauce with some vinegar). I usually make them with completely submerged though, so they probably won't last as long as normal pickled eggs if you keep them this way.
If you want to try something else that's really good, you could try pickling some sausage. I buy some kielbasa when it's on sale sometimes and pickle a few pounds at a time, great snack.

My only critique is that you should have tried with a dark and sweeter kind of chili sauce. Habanero is one of my favorite peppers and I use it for a bunch of different meals, but I tried it on soft boiled eggs before and it wasnt that good IMO. The bright citrusy taste of habanero just doesn't go well with egg to me.

Try with a red jalepeno, or fresno pepper based sauce next time. Or maybe even gochujang kind of sauce

I do this. The answer is three days. Add a splash of extra vinegar and water. On the second day "burp" the bag to let some of the sulphur out.

Nowadays I just dump half a bottle of hotsauce in a jar of pickle juice (pickles removed). Add a couple tables spoons of vinegar and then add the eggs. Circulate. Let rest four days.
