      Nah

do other stuff during the 15 min

      They won't be ready

Caramelizing onions takes an hour of constant stirring
      All the recipes are lying

It takes at least an hour, but you only have to stir once every 10 minutes after the first 10 minutes of continuous stirring

Don't rush it. Simmer them in butter until they have a rich brown colour.

Just use proper technique. It will be done before you know it.

And use wine. If you keep them at high heat, stir constantly and deglaze with wine every so often, you will get fully caramelised onions in about 20 minutes.
Some people consider that cheating, tho.

        Yeah, that's why

I know! But it works and if you're from where I'm from, you're probably going to add wine to whatever things the onions will be used in, anyway.

          no that's generally correct

puree an onion and then see how long it takes for it to turn into onion syrup. not very long. caramelization is all about surface area that's in contact with the heat source (and moisture loss). smaller chunks caramelize faster.

then it could easily take 15 minutes

Caramelizing is a vague term that can refer to anything from slightly browning the edges to completely roasting them into sludge. This is where your confusion comes from.

    why is that cat green?

While that's obviously a recolour, some light-furred animals can actually be born dyed green due to the presence of biliverdin in the mother. Like lady's hair dye, the smaragdine hue wears off with time and an animal born green will eventually become the pale shade of blonde or white typical of their species or breed.

Happens all the time, even in people, though other factors tend to be at okay for us to develop green hair. Sometimes, blondes and the elderly will start to develop green hair, though that's usually through water contaminated with copper, like what happened in southern Sweden in 2011.
There was also that green cat in Denmark in the 90s
